The Gasman - This One's For You

The Gasman aka Christopher Reeves offers up his 4th album 'This One's For You' on the Planet Mu imprint. The album provides intrepid, slow moving soundscapes alongside chaotic, beat filled creations. It kicks off with Freezer which is arguably the best track on the album, the piano-esque synth sounds repeat and progress amongst light, fast paced and impeccably programmed beats. Following this, tracks like Goof and Chalk show the more melodic side of things with atmospheric echoes and sporadic hits. There is a resonating use throughout the album of old style breakbeat sounding synths which remind you of early Orbital but with the essence of masters like Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, without ever really offering anything new. An enjoyable listen which will unfortunately not hamper the progress of the aforementioned professors of audio manipulation.
