Vex'd - Degenerate

Y'know, it's times like this when I feel like all the effort's been worthwhile. Exactly one month prior to it's release, a finished copy of the debut Vex'd album "Degenerate" drops through my letterbox. This is the 2-CD edition with all the Subtext singles added on the bonus disc, housed in a tasteful card slipcase with a nice design by Ben C. that looks like it uses images from one of those old Sinbad movies. Only had a quick listen so far, but it's fucking powerful stuff, make no mistake. More on the music soon...
But I'd just like to say a very public "thank you" to Planet Mu for the ongoing 'arrangement', for taking this lowly blog seriously enough to value my small contribution to the electronic underground scene, and for trusting me to use my privileges responsibly. Seriously, it means a lot to me. Despite what some people might think, I don't get sent that much free stuff - in fact if I only wrote about the free music I'd probably struggle to fill four or five posts a month. Oh, to have the Blissblogger's predicament! Of course I value everything that gets sent in, but P.Mu is the only 'big' label so far that even acknowledges my existence, let alone sends me anything (although I do have a 'friend' in the Warp organisation).
So anyway, today I'm feeling pretty good about the blogging life, although generally speaking I still feel we've got a long way to go before the industry takes us seriously. But do we deserve to be taken seriously in the first place? Are we really the taste-makers of the future or is this whole MP3 blog thing just a craze that's already showing signs of losing it's way (see Guanoboy's own observations). Furthermore, is the very idea of MP3 bloggers becoming respectable/credible outlets for music promotion to be encouraged? Are we at our most effective when being totally independent, renegade file-sharers? Questions, questions....
