Venetian Snares & Bong-Ra - 4 Adaptations Of Rossz Csillag Alatt Született
Reviewed by Boomkat (Boomkat)
Probably the current undisputed Breakcore Heavy-Weight Champion Bong-Ra (aka Jason Kohnen) here steps into the ring alongside Venetian Snares (aka Aaron Funk) - with the ensuing 12" nowhere near as hectic as you'd imagine. Having first sampled the delights of the Snares career defining 'Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett' on a wet Easter Sunday, Kohnen decided that some dues needed to be paid and set about reinterpreting four cuts from the original album in his own vision. Rather than batter the whip-lash beats with an iron fist, Bong-Ra has coaxed the jazzier end of the spectrum out into the open, resulting in a relaxed series of double-takes that reference Badalamenti and Squarepusher's 'Iambic 5 Poetry', as well as Venetian Snars own immense "Moonglow" 7". With a particular highlight being the cinematic Bong-Ra mix of 'Szamar Madar, this 12" succeeds in casting both the original material and remixing artist in a new light - something that is increasingly rare in these rejig-for-cash days
