Various - The Sacred Symbols Of Mu

'Sacred Symbols Of Mu' sees Planet Mu chalk up 100 releases, making it one of the elder statesmen of British electronic labels. The track selection is suitably mature too: there are, of course, a handful of breakcore tracks but not so many as to become tiresome - and the remainder of the 24 tracks (which are all exclusives) cover all musical bases from dubstep to alt.rock. The standouts on the first CD come from Dykehouse (probably the closest Planet Mu will ever come to a pop record), Tom Burbank, Leafcutter John, Daedelus (an irresistible, bleep-heavy slice of hip-hop), and Pinch (throbbing dubstep). The quality dips a little on the second CD but Vex'd, µ-Ziq, Chevron (whose contribution here is one of his finest yet), Last Step (a superlative contemporary take on Italo disco that would not be out of place on Viewlexx) and Julian Fane all more than hold their own.
