Venetian Snares - Meathole

The third album of 05 from Aaron Funk, but 'Meathole' comes with the caveat that it was originally recorded two years ago - the 'Doll Doll Doll' era, and Venetian Snares' most daring period. Whether that's true, only Aaron Funk will ever know, but 'Meathole' is Venetian Snares returning to their most brutal schizophrenic best, pure musical hyperbole that revels in the darkness of its design. It meanders somewhat at the conclusion, but otherwise grey areas of sound, distant rumblings of torment, and torrents of jazzed up drum 'n' bass fight it out in a combination that would be almost garish, were they not so ruthless, relentlessly and scientifically applied. Pity about the packaging, though. While Hymen present Venetian Snares in beautiful digipacks, Planet Mu again offers a CD that looks cheap, tacky, and fails to do the artist justice.
