Venetian Snares - Winter In The Belly Of A Snake

This, Aaron Funk's third album, is avant-garde freakery that even Bjork would raise an eyebrow at. It's the sonic musings of a disturbed mind that you get here with harsh, squeaky, screeching atmospherics often stretched over traditional strings and mellifluous piano sections. Lead track "dad" is breakcore mayhem featuring vocals from Aaron himself while the staccato bleeps on "Suffocate" are stiflingly claustrophobic. If 70s cult movie Taxi Driver was re-made for a 2001 audience (sic) then this is the music Travis Bickle would have playing in the background when he shaves his hair into a Mohawk and does his "Are you talking to me?" speech. Seriously twisted.
