hellfish & producer - bastard sonz of rave

'crawl & die', 'professional psycho', 'theme from fuck-daddy'!?! hmmmm, what could these titles sound like? with disturbing inlay cover art and frequent use of swearing in the titles, this is as cliched as having gorgeous looking women on ibiza compilations. still the music is far more scarier than anything that can come from the famed spanish islands (although, on second thoughts....).
the lack of intellectual gravitas that one can level at this music allows it to wallow in its own ridiculousness. the sped up vocal samples, the mindless speed of the rhythms all fuse into a blur of pure white light. but in amongst the digital carnage and hard disk trashing lie some momentary blips of intricacy. it can seem foolhardy to insert such detail when most people are dancing to this, off their heads, 'ripped to the tits on drink and drugs'. but this provides the album with its more interesting moments.
opener 'witch hunt' sets the agenda perfectly; playing havoc with the eq range and interspersing the breaks with laser noises and horror samples. the rest just merely clears up the devastation that was created by the first track. 'another mindless brkbeat trak' says it all, 'rude attitude' takes hip-hop and tears it a new asshole. for those that think the prodigy are the hardest thing to come out essex, think again.....
