Slag Boom Van Loon - So Soon

A remix album using tracks from Slag Boom Van Loon - the project comprising Rotterdam's Jochem Paap (aka Speedy J) and Mike Paradinas, who, as µ-Ziq, appears as one of the mixologists here alongside a varied crew including Coil, Four Tet, Pole and Matmos. Boards Of Canada set a rather non-combative tone with their slow-rolling, spacious, anthemic drone swathes, but tracks get increasingly edgeful as the set unfolds. µ-Ziq is choppier and flickier, adding squidgy space-jazz touches. Tipper's "Butch" prowls and trickles extravagantly against another spare atmospheric loop. Horse Opera make a surprising departure with "Pedals", setting blistering glitches and high-pitched sine tones against a purposefully fey and woodenly played melody. Pole's "Casual" is sparse, but also thriving with ideas and tension, building up into a nice prancing lopsided lilt. And Matmos provide their usual brand of experimental soundworlds.
