With highly-touted Boka and Hotflush releases, as well as more than a few sought-after dubs, being caned by all the premier scene DJs, Distance's debut for Mike Paradinas' potent imprint proves he's got what it takes to break out from relative obscurity. The synth heavy A side "Traffic" is some sort of primal dancefloor monstrosity, growling and nashing its teeth within the first 30 seconds, and rarely letting up throughout its duration. This

Shocking productions here from Oris Jay, his first new Darqwan material in a while - keeping the momentum up with an emphasis on crisp delivery that's far removed from the murky wobblestep that's so big right now. Presumably meant as a tribute to scene champion Mary Anne Hobbs, "M/a...ximum Reespek" hits heaviest with it's drops while hoover stabs and a serrated bassline alternate around some disembodied vocals to terrifying effect. Bumper 4-tracker from newcomer iTAL tEK for Planet Mu. This is the Brighton based producer's debut 12" and is the perfect introduction to his 'darker' sound, and as the rest of the scene moves into a more 4/4 direction we see iTAL tEK taking things into the basement and adding a sizable chunk of noise into his productions. It reminds me of when the whole Renegade Hardware sound took hold of drum 'n bass, and that's no bad thing - there's always space

The long awaited Planet Mu debut for Andy Jenkison and, as you can imagine, the boy's on fire. The twelve kicks off with "Stir Fry Jungle", a totally hyperactive breakbeat frenzy that isn't quite Hardcore (or Jungle for that matter) - instead going down a dayglo path filled with breakneck arpeggio's and a cavernous bassline somewhere in the mix - mental sh*t. "Friend Track" is a more measured analogue Casio anthem, filled-out with those signature
