Two Lone Swordsmen's new LP, From the Double Gone Chapel, sees the duo genre hopping from their familiar leftfield electronic productions into lo-fi rock band territory with undertones of gothy dub and punk tinged with occasional synth grumbles. Sans Mr. Weatherall, Swordsman Keith Tenniswood, known also for his Radioactive Man alias, brings forth the sub-bass electro assault at Rothko for the album launch party. I thought I'd kick-off this little run of Planet Mu reviews with an album from the main man Mike Paradinas himself, here working under his Kid Spatula alter-ego. Although released this year, "Meast" isn't actually new material, it's a two-disc collection of DAT-detritus culled from the period 1994-98. Why get excited by that old stuff? 'Cos it's lush! Jackal is the best example of this.

Though, as dopey as the new moniker sounds Kid Spatula has bright promise, and takes to task that whole 80s retro sound that has flip-flopped for all those eurotrash proto-Danceteria wannabe go-goa’holics. Only because "I've been there and have done that" can I make a valid sneer
